We all know that the Newspaper Industry in a time honored tradition of the last hundred+ years, and our morning routine. But beyond that, it is a syncopated, well-oiled machine of fast-paced writing, art-creation, and daily personal drive that most people rarely see or even think about in this instant gratification society. We as consumers, in our digital age, have the innate ability to instantly devour news and content at an exorbitant rate. We rarely realize what goes into creating the content we so rapidly digest.

I was so fortunate to work for one such place; the Times Community Newspapers. From a Pre-Pressman at a printing facility in Xenia, to a Graphic Designer and in-house Webmaster, I saw the inner workings of not one, but multiple weekly newspapers that were integral to their respective communities. Seeing firsthand how these printed news engines came together; from stories, advertisements, and graphics, to how they were printed and delivered to homes was an extraordinary process. These are a few samples of my work from my time there.

The GMVN Auto Showcase was a relatively new section that was to be featured in over 40 newspapers across Brown Publishing's newspapers once every month. I had the honor of creating the header and several marketing graphics to go along with it. Click on the header to the left to see several other things that we designed.
The Stop and Shop was a Bi-Monthly publication of small ads for local goods and services. It was very comparable to a full publication classifieds section of any newspaper but ran thousands of ads at once.
Creating advertisements for the newspapers was but one of many hats I wore while at TCN, but it was also one of my favorite as I was constantly able to flex my creative muscle in small bursts. It gave me the opportunity to help small businesses get recognized whether it was in but color on a 1/4 page ad, or in black and white for a 2" x 2" ad, those were the best challenges.
